What it is
Purpose and use
The ControlEdge™ product line covers blowout preventers, process control and systems in harsh environments requiring remote connectivity. Honeywell states that the ControlEdge PLC is one of the first controllers in the industry to achieve ISA Level 2 Cybersecurity certification — a point that matters for any operator working under NIS2 or an equivalent security regime.
The ControlEdge™ Discrete PLC is aimed at discrete manufacturing, with motion control capability and a 1 ms scan speed for high-speed processes, compliance with EN ISO 13849 for machine safety up to PL e, and applications in palletisers, conveyor sorters and warehouse material handling as well as food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, web manufacturing, metals, mining and minerals.
The Experion® platform combines Distributed Control Systems, human-machine interfaces and SCADA. Experion® LX and PlantCruise are purpose-built DCS solutions for continuous and batch process control; Experion® HS is a scalable HMI and SCADA solution for unit operations of all sizes with a focus on usability and compliance. Honeywell Variable Frequency Drives integrate with Experion® and ControlEdge® for motor control across applications from small pumps to large compressors.

Why does cybersecurity certification matter for a PLC?
Because operators are increasingly required to demonstrate the security posture of their operational technology, not just of their IT. A controller with ISA Level 2 Cybersecurity certification gives that evidence at the device level, which is a documented starting point rather than an assurance.
Can Honeywell control equipment talk to our existing SCADA?
Normally yes, through OPC connectivity products that integrate Honeywell products with third party SCADA systems, historians and human machine interfaces. Which interface is appropriate depends on your existing system, which we check before proposing anything.
