Searchzone Sonik ultrasonic gas leak detector
The Searchzone Sonik acoustic gas leak detector adds ultrasonic technology to the mix of point and open path detection. It reacts to the sound of a pressurised leak rather than to the gas itself.
What it is
Purpose and use
That distinction decides whole projects. On a well-ventilated outdoor installation, a pressurised gas release disperses long before it reaches a point detector and may never form a cloud dense enough to cross an open path beam. The leak is nevertheless real, expensive and dangerous. An ultrasonic detector hears it at the moment it starts, independently of wind direction and dilution.
It does not replace gas measurement — it detects a leak, not a concentration — which is why it is normally specified alongside point or open path detection rather than instead of it.

When does ultrasonic leak detection make sense?
When the gas is under pressure and the area is so well ventilated that a cloud never builds up. That is the situation in which conventional gas detection is at its weakest and an operator often discovers a leak from the gas bill rather than from the alarm system.
Can ultrasonic detection replace our gas detectors?
No. It detects a leak event, not a gas concentration, and it cannot tell you whether an atmosphere is safe to work in. It is an addition to point or open path detection, not a substitute for it.
