SmartLine® SMV800 multivariable transmitter

The SMV800 combines static pressure, differential pressure and process temperature in one transmitter and calculates compensated mass or volume flow rate as a fourth process variable — three measurements and one calculation from a single process intrusion.

What it is

Purpose and use

For a flow measurement based on a primary element such as an orifice plate, the classical installation needs a differential pressure transmitter, a static pressure transmitter, a temperature transmitter and a flow computer. The SMV800 replaces that chain. Honeywell states a reduction of inventory by up to 70 % and of maintenance cost by up to 30 %, which follows directly from having one device instead of three.

Stated accuracies are up to 0.04 % for differential pressure, up to 0.1 °C for temperature and up to 0.6 % for flow, with rangeability up to 400:1 and a compensated flow response time of up to twice per second. The transmitter is compliant with Experion® PKS, HART 7 and Modbus RTU (RS485). Meter body-only components are available to support third party and OEM metering solutions.

FAQ

Questions about SmartLine® SMV800 multivariable transmitter

Does a multivariable transmitter really save money?

Where a flow measurement currently uses three transmitters and a flow computer, yes — in purchase, in installation and in spare parts. Honeywell states inventory reduction up to 70 % and maintenance cost reduction up to 30 %. Where the measurement is a simple differential pressure reading with no compensation, a single transmitter remains the cheaper answer.
