Portable and wireless

Honeywell ModRAE™

ModRAE is Honeywell's modular platform for VOC screening and compound-specific detection. Interchangeable smart cartridges carry the sensing, so the detection capability can be changed without replacing the instrument.

What it is

Purpose and use

The cartridge-based architecture is the difference. Each cartridge integrates SensorRAE technology and keeps the sensors biased while it is out of the device, so cartridges can be stored, transported or serviced separately. That changes how maintenance is organised: calibration and servicing happen at cartridge level instead of taking whole instruments out of the field.

Two operating modes cover different tasks. Health Mode monitors continuously with exposure metrics such as TWA and STEL; Safety Mode supports survey work with real-time graphing and object measurement for repeatable sampling.

Connectivity is modular too: Bluetooth Low Energy and NFC are standard on every device, and a LoRa or cellular module can be installed in the field later. ModRAE came to market in 2026 as the successor to the earlier RAE portable line.

FAQ

Questions about Honeywell ModRAE™

What does the modular cartridge actually change in day-to-day work?

Servicing moves from the instrument to the cartridge. Because a coin cell keeps the sensors biased while the cartridge is out of the device, cartridges can be calibrated, stored or transported separately — the instrument stays in the field while the sensing is serviced.

Can ModRAE measure benzene specifically, not just total VOC?

Yes. Alongside broad VOC screening, compound-specific detection such as benzene is supported, with a measuring range of 200 ppm benzene on the corresponding cartridge. Which cartridge and lamp you need depends on the substances and the concentrations at your measuring point.

Can wireless be added later?

Yes. Bluetooth Low Energy and NFC are on every device, and the LoRa or cellular module is designed for field installation — the wireless upgrade does not require a new instrument.
