Production and storage
Reactors, distillation, filling and drumming, tank storage and drum stores. The hazard profile changes between campaigns, which is what makes a fixed single-gas concept fragile.
Industries
Production and storage, laboratories, waste water treatment. The chemical industry is the sector where no single detection technology is enough, because the gas list changes with the campaign.
Processes
Reactors, distillation, filling and drumming, tank storage and drum stores. The hazard profile changes between campaigns, which is what makes a fixed single-gas concept fragile.
Fume cupboards, gas cabinets and valve manifold boxes, specialty gas supply. Measurement often has to happen inside an enclosure where no technician can service a sensor.
Sumps, strippers, sewers and scrubbers. Hydrogen sulphide and methane in confined spaces, and the entry work that goes with them.
Hazards
| Toxic gases across a wide range | Chlorine, ammonia, hydrogen chloride, hydrogen cyanide and process-specific substances, depending on the campaign. |
|---|---|
| Flammable vapours and solvents | Reactors, filling, drum stores and solvent recovery, measured as percentage of the lower explosive limit. |
| Hydrogen sulphide and methane | Waste water treatment, sumps, sewers and digesters. |
| Oxygen deficiency | Nitrogen-inerted equipment, vessels and confined spaces during entry work. |
Matching equipment
Up to three sensors on one transmitter, for measuring points where more than one gas hazard is credible at the same position.
OmniPoint™ Transmitter in detailOne transmitter platform across mixed sensor technologies — the usual route to consolidating a plant that has grown over decades.
XNX™ Universal Transmitter in detailFT-IR monitoring of up to 40 points with up to 15 gases per location, where identification matters and not only a threshold alarm.
ACM 150G2 in detailExtractive single-point detection inside gas cabinets, valve manifold boxes and exhaust ducts.
Midas® S2 and the Midas® family in detailPortable instrument with a choice of more than 15 sensors for gas lists outside the standard four.
Honeywell BW™ Flex in detailParts-per-billion tape-based detection for hydrides, mineral acids, oxidisers and amines during leak investigation.
SPM Flex in detailComponents and spare parts
FAQ
By separating the platform from the sensor. A universal transmitter takes different sensor technologies without changing the installation, a multi-sensor transmitter covers several hazards at one point, and an FT-IR analyser identifies many substances at the same measuring point instead of alarming on one. Which combination fits depends on how often and how far your gas list actually moves.
Extractively. The sample is drawn to the sensor rather than the sensor being placed in the cabinet, which is what the Midas family is built for. The design parameter to watch is the transport time of the sample through the line, which we account for when the sampling concept is drawn up.
